April '14: "We never knew that through Jesus we could be saved."

Our mission is that every village of Liberia will have a healthy church.  Most of the towns and villages of Liberia have no church. We have worked in over 300 villages in 12 counties.  In March we made 75 mission trips, visiting 102 villages and other locations and we made many other local mission trips. Some of the towns we were in multiple times. We went into 29 new communities. Our longest mission trip was 15 days the shortest a few hours.  7 were baptized and 72 completed our extensive Bible study program.  20 completed our 2 week Bible Institute school.  We showed the Jesus film 2 times to about 400 people.  We printed and distributed approximately 39,000 pages of training material.  Several factors affect how many mission trips we can go on each month; illness, injuries, and availability of money are some.

Some highlights of the month

Look for the Riley Family:  They are in the USA!  They will be there for three months before returning home (home is Liberia).  They have come to see family, and share their experiences with churches and families.  Rest?  Well I am not sure they will find much of that.  They have a long list of assignments from us here and people that want to see them there.  Anyway isn’t that what heaven is for, isn’t it supposed to be a place of rest for the weary?  Don will send out their schedule and his phone number later.  They have been here a year, not easy.  You will enjoy hearing of their experiences, hopes and seeing their pictures.

Goyeajohn Town:  Is a community full of witchcraft, a spiritual medium and a Grand Devil.  The spiritual medium confessed and showed them her witchcraft utensils.  She said, “We are ready to serve the Lord, so all our baby bones and pots that we been using we will destroy and we will stop using the spirit we have been going to.  We never knew that through Jesus we could be saved.”

The local “devils” are starting to fight back:  In the past the local witchcraft society has retreated when we have come.  But now they are beginning to fight back.  One of their ways is by having the Grand Devil dress up in his costume and prance through the town with his disciples (often these same disciples can been found in church on Sunday).  If anyone is outside or sees him they are to be beat, have their home destroyed or even killed.  Several times recently when our teams have come into one of their towns they have sent out the Grand Devil to close up the town.  Many times the town will be shut down from 6 AM – 6 PM.  For now our response has been to stay in and use the time to train our disciples though I see a showdown coming.

Bhai Town:  The pastors of two well-known denominations have received our material but refuse to pass it on to their congregations and the community.  They are a part of a couple witchcraft societies.  Many times the Satanic Animistic religion of the land has been intertwined with Christianity.  The leaders will go into the bush on Friday worshiping with Satan and on Sunday lead the church.

Bewane Town:  This town was founded in 1908.  Their religion was idol worship.  In 1912 a missionary from America came to them.  He took one man from the town and trained him with the words of God. That man, Hne Bouh, returned and started a church.  Many of the town converted.  After he died so also did that local church.  The next generation went back into idol worship.  His son, Andrew Bouh, is also old. He received one of our teams and is very serious about us returning to start another church.  He is willing to be trained and lead the church.  Like father, like son.
Wordsower Bible Institute:  We just released 20 trained Ivorian refugee disciple makers (many refugees from Ivory Coast now live in Liberia because of the war in their country). They are full of passion and fighting mad!  Satan, look out!  What Satan thought was going to be his greatest victory was, in fact, his greatest defeat: Calvary.  Let what now appears to be his destructive victory in Ivory Coast also become a great defeat for him and his kingdom.  Pray for these warriors as they enter the battle for God and His kingdom in Ivory Coast!

Don Riley Sr.:  Yes, Don’s dad came and spent a few weeks with us here.  He also has pictures and stories.  He can give you the real inside scoop of what goes on around here.

Prayer requests:  Pray for Liberia, for a great revival to sweep through the country.  Pray for a healthy church in every village in our generation.  Pray for the Riley family while in the USA.  Pray for our next Bible Institute class.  It will be our first level 2 class.

Thank you for your prayers, donations and encouragement,

kim
