There are 400,000 Christian missionaries in the world, only about 3% go to the unreached tribes. That means there are only 13,000 foreign missionaries going to 3 billion lost souls. 42% of the world is made up of unreached tribes (Radical.net, Great Commission Statistics that Should Concern Us, by David Platt).
Raising Up and Sending Indigenous Missionary Teams
There are many advantages to raising up indigenous missionaries:
- Often, they are more fruitful than foreign missionaries.
- They have sustainability. Throughout history foreign missionaries have been removed for various reasons. It is essential that if missionaries are removed that the indigenous will continue to bring the gospel, of our Lord, to the people so that the church will continue to grow and strengthen. Our goal is to create independence and not dependance.
- Often the indigenous missionaries know the culture, food and national language.
- Indigenous missionaries are far less expensive than foreign missionaries.
- The common sufferings and hardships of the region are a normal part of their existence. Sufferings such as the environment, lack of medical care, disease, hunger, poverty, and no electricity can devastate foreign missionaries.
- The indigenous can easily assimilate and not stand out. They are not looked on with suspicion. Many missionaries are not able to assimilate. Often, they are not able to live at the standard of the people, while the indigenous are able.
- Foreign missionaries are limited in number, indigenous missionaries are limitless.
These verses remind me of the strength and ability of the indigenous missionary:
“Four things on earth are small,
yet they are extremely wise:
Ants are creatures of little strength,
yet they store up their food in the summer;
hyraxes are creatures of little power,
yet they make their home in the crags;
Locusts have no king,
yet they advance together in ranks;
a lizard can be caught with the hand,
yet it is found in kings’ palaces.” Proverbs 30:24-28
Indigenous missionaries should not be looked on as small, second rate or weak. They can do what foreign missionaries are unable to do. Wordsower Africa trains and sends indigenous missionary teams into the unreached tribes.

We define passion as willing to suffer and die for a cause greater than ourselves. In the testimonies below, you will feel the spirit of their passion. Each of those who go on mission do it with passion. They go in true sacrifice, suffering and risk.
From our team in Sierra Leone:
“Making the gospel available to every person for the glory of God. Our trip was very hard as we went to a new unreached town. We had to transport our bikes across a fast-flowing river. It was not easy. Be in prayer with us as we sacrifice for the gospel.”
From our Lofa County base (They call themselves the base of no delay):
“The base of no delay always finds a strategy to keep the gospel moving. We are soldiers united to reach the unreached and find the lost at all costs. We go as led by the Spirit of God through Jesus Christ. God help us as we Advance!!!
“The churchless town of **** has given birth to a great house church. They have received a three-day leadership training and are willing to lead the church. Jesus is Lord! Many have been converted. Your prayers and support are needed for the new converts to have a place of worship. A roof over their heads.”

100% of all donations go to the mission. None is used for administration. Tax-deductible receipts will be sent each January. Kim Smith is fully self-funded; no donations are used for his support.
